CREATURES OF COMFORT SS16

Posted BY FRANCES MAY ON September 11th, 2015
Creatures of Comfort started as a boutique in 2005 in Los Angeles. In 2010, founder Jade Lai introduced a New York storefront coinciding with the launch of the self-titled in-house womenswear line. Over the years we have come to expect easy to wear and directional pieces from the line. See below for the review of the Spring 2016 show as well as our current Fall 2015 pieces.
Creatures of Comfort chose to present their SS16 collection yesterday at 3pm at the Maccarone Gallery in New York’s West Village. The crowd of approximately 200 people was made up of press, retailers and friends with a decidedly down to earth vibe. The show started at precisely 3:29pm and included 40 looks which lasted 18 minutes. The show title was “L’Esprit Nouveau” which translates to “The New Spirit”. Lai was inspired by “the colors, structures, sunlight-drenched spaces and the optimism” of La Cite Raieuse (The Radiant City) in Marseille, France.
Collection details included custom printed Italian cottons, ties, dropped shoulders, drawstrings, whites, linen, slouchy silhouettes, texture, tans, blues, and slightly experimental sweater knits including off the shoulder tanks and several pairs of melange mid-length shorts. The clothes had an amazing drape and quality to them. It’s not hard to imagine these pieces walking down the street and being at home in many cities domestically and abroad.
Of special note, apparently the the team was sewing samples up until 6pm the night before the show and there were gift bags from Aveda with makeup and snacks to help keep you going between shows.
Official photos from the runway show can be seen here and Frances May’s Fall 2015 Creatures of Comfort buy can be found here.
