Rodebjer is the womenswear line designed by the Swede Carin Rodebjer. The Spring 2016 show was entitled “A Room of One’s Own” and was presented on September 10th at the Soho Lofts on Mercer street. It was a highly produced event with black clad PRs everywhere, a runway with an exposed brick backdrop and a light rain falling on the huge skylight window above. The show started at 6:29pm and lasted exactly 10 minutes (the perfect amount of time) to parade out the 27 looks. Rodebjer branded fans were handed out to showgoers to keep cool in the older building (probably built before air conditioning was invented). The music was an energizing mix by Ben Brunnemer who is one of the most in demand DJ’s for fashion week and also created show music for Creatures of Comfort and Raquel Allegra.
Collection details included: mud green, fringe, leather, indigos, whites, sand washed silk, swingy pants, kimono wrap tops and platform sandals. There were also two collaborations of note. The designer commissioned artist and longtime friend Liselotte Watkins to create a color block print for dresses made up of paper cutouts transferred onto sand washed silks. The second was a group of handmade ceramic bracelets made by fellow Swede Charlotte Poon. Bracelets were all one of a kind and combined “raw, uncolored ceramics with glazed surfaces of deep red, gold and the iconic Höganäs bronze glaze”. Finally, for a clever twist, there were pair of twins that walked the show, Kelsey and Balee Soles with DNA in looks 20 and 21.
